The save as dialog in Excel looks like this This is the same window after the document in "Housing" has been opened. This is the folder structure on the mapped drive as it should be: Have a look at the screenshots below to document the issue: If she opens the same text file with Word, the containing folder disappears. It definitely has something to do with Office as when she opens a text document with notepad, all is good. To make things even weirder, this only happens to folders in the root of the mapped drive, not in any of the subfolders. We've removed and re-created the user account and un- and reinstalled Office 2013 but the problem remains. The user has full access to the folder, its subfolders and files through inheritance.

I've seen my fair share of weirdness but this takes the cake. Yes, I know what you are thinking but no, I'm not kidding. When the document is closed, the folder re-appears instantly. Instead the "save as" dialog suggests "%appdata%\microsoft\windows\network shortcuts" and when the network drive is selected, again, the folder is missing in the list and cannot be accessed at all from the computer. When the user tries to save the file back to the original location, she can't. I have the weirdest problem and can't point my finger at the cause of it.Ī customer opens an Excel document from a mapped network drive and the containing folder disappears from File Explorer.
